Ask, Believe, Receive

“Asking is the beginning of receiving. Make sure you don’t go to the ocean with a teaspoon.” Jim Rohn

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark 11:24

My eight year old son exhibits impatience on a number of occasions when he asks for something. One day, my husband made a statement that curtailed that impatience significantly. He said, “If I say I am going to do something, I am going to do it. You have to learn to trust me on that.”  Since then, I have watched my son asking for things, and even when he does not get them immediately,  he knows that no matter what his daddy is going to honour his word.

It reminds me of the scripture found in Mark 11:24. The Bible says in that scripture that whatever we pray for or desire we ought to believe that we have received. Many times we pray about something and we get impatient and frustrated. Part of the reason for that impatience comes out of the fact that we do not believe we will receive whatever we ask for. Think about it, wouldn’t it be silly to get frustrated and impatient if you knew with certainty that whatever you ask according to his will, you will receive? Sadly, many Christians do not get this principle whilst others use this same principle and get results. I see so many people using vision boards to lay out what they are envisioning for their lives. It is a powerful tool because just looking at the board repeatedly, one can actually start visualizing him/herself possessing what is on the board. Many persons have testified of the potency of vision boards. Do you know that the vision board is using the same principle? Ask, believe, receive.

Imagine having a guarantee that whatever you ask for, you will receive. How would you approach life? Wouldn’t it be silly to worry about anything? So, why are you worried about things when you pray? Consider all the things you prayed for that you did not receive. Now, don’t get me wrong, we pray about many things that God simply says no to because it is not in his will for our lives. However, there are things that are aborted simply because we do not believe that we will receive.

So, I challenge you today to read the word of God a little more. In his word, you will know what he says about you, where his heart is concerning you. It will also guide your prayers and challenge you to align to his will and purpose for your life. And just like my son has learnt that his daddy will always do what he says he will do, you will take that same approach with your Heavenly Father. You can sit back, even when it seems like it’s taking forever, and relax knowing that you will receive what you ask for. God’s got this!
