Jeremiah 29:5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;
Does it ever seem like other people are happier than you?You scroll on Facebook and see people having fun on their vacations, spending time with one another, or celebrating their achievements. You, on the other hand, are struggling along, just trying to make it through the day and coming home exhausted.In an effort to console yourself, you try to rationalize why you’re in this situation and figure it must just be “bad luck”.Over time, it can be frustrating. You could be sabotaging your own growth without realizing it. But the good news is that, if you pay attention to your thought process, you’ll realize that you can regain control of your situation.So instead of holding yourself back, focus your thoughts on living positively. Happiness takes effort and a change in thinking.
Your current circumstance may not be what you want it to be, but make the best of it. That was the central message behind Jeremiah 29:5 when God told Jeremiah to write a letter instructing the Israelites that were in captivity in Babylon to build houses and dwell in them and plant gardens and eat the fruit therefore. Even your less than ideal circumstances come with hidden opportunities, do not miss it.
Being in bondage would have caused some of the Israelites to be bitter, while others would have reminisced about the good old days. Then there are those who would have been dissatisfied with the current state of their existence such that they would have continually murmured and complained. But none of the above named responses would have helped in creating change. The only way to have done that was to make the best of the current circumstances by identifying and seizing the current opportunities. Rather than murmur and complain about your current reality, create change by choosing to identify and seize the hidden opportunities in your environment.
Life Application: Look for hidden opportunities in your current environment and make the best of them.
Prayer: Dear Lord, there are so many things I am yet to accomplice and sometimes it makes me sad. Help me to make the best of my current situations. Help me to identify areas where I can make changes and help me to accept those that I cannot change. Give me the strength to press on daily even when it gets overwhelming sometimes. Lord, you are an awesome God and I trust you to take care of what I can’t. In Jesus’ name…amen.
