If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are. Mother Teresa

Proverbs 22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

The definition of humility is the feeling or attitude that you have no special importance that makes you better than others or having a lack of pride. At first glance, humility seems like a negative quality, almost like a sign of weakness rather than a strength. In reality, humility is a type of modesty that will get you very far in your life as a person, a contender, and a leader. Let’s look at it another way. A person who lacks humility is arrogant. It is a person who only thinks of themselves and sees themselves as higher and better than others. There is no room for an arrogant person to improve himself because he does not recognize his flaws. A person who is not humble does not have a growth mindset. The best fighter in the world still makes mistakes. The best coach in the world still has much to learn about the fight, and should always carry out their duties as not only a teacher but a student as well. When anyone lacks the ability to see his weaknesses, he will never be able to reach his full potential, because life is a never-ending journey of growth and learning. Pride robs a person of his ability to achieve.

Two of the attributes that are necessary for continued success are a reverence for God and humility. King Uzziah became proud and as a result his reign as King was cut short.

Uzziah had many great accomplishments as a King. Some of his noted successes include ruling over his enemies. He also built huge towers in Jerusalem.  He was the first, based on Bible history to make high powered weapons. He made engines that were placed on the towers in Jerusalem that would shoot stones and arrows at attacking enemies. His success caused his heart to be lifted up and as a result he went into the house of the Lord and burnt incense upon the altar of incense, something that only the priests were allowed to do. In response God struck him with leprosy and he remained a leper until he died. As a result of his leprosy, he was no longer able to lead and his son Jotham was made King in his stead, while he lived in isolation.

Humility with the fear of the Lord are attributes that will accelerate your success. Their very existence will create favour with God and with men. Stay humble.

Life Application: Neither in thought, word or action do not project yourself to be better than others.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I struggle with humility many times. I often think of myself better than others. Please forgive me and remove this pride from me. Allow me to see myself as you see me and to see others as you see them in Jesus name, amen.
