Proverbs 19:21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.
Sometimes, we know that we are at a big decision point in life. At other times, a series of seemingly small decisions can lead to a huge life change. The decisions we make in life can have eternal consequences, both for us and for others around us. In this devotional, we want to learn how to make the decisions that God wants us to make.
How do people make decisions? Oftentimes, people make decisions based on their feelings and emotions. They make decisions based on what they want to do. At other times, people make decisions based on what other people are doing. Following the crowd seems like a safe way to make decisions. Sometimes, people make decisions based on what an influential person has said or written. However, these ways of making decisions will often lead you astray, because emotions, the crowd or an influential person may not help you choose the right path. In today’s world, there is a lot more bad counsel readily available than good counsel. Everything you see on television or read on the internet is not true or good counsel.
Even though planning is important, the best of plans will fail you if it is not informed by the right strategy. The right strategy is divinely instructed and with it you are assured of victory.
Gideon had to face a multitude of Midianites and the Amalekites that looked like the sand on the seashore. His plan was to attack with a number of 32,000 men. That strategy would have failed. The one that gave him victory was divinely instructed: he was advised by the Lord to go into battle with 300 men, which he did, and the enemy was totally destroyed.
Depend less on your ideas and thoughts and more counsel and instruction from the Lord. That is what will give you the victory.
Life Application: Through prayer and taking counsel from men of God, inform your plans with divine instructions
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to surround myself with the right people. Place people in my life who will help me to make the best decisions and give me Godly counsel. Help me to provide others with Godly counsel and not lead them astray with my opinions that are not centred in wise counsel. In Jesus name, amen.
