You can only have so much will power and then you will break, so it’s important to set yourself up for success in every way possible.  Sometimes this means, you must surround yourself with like minded people in order to help you achieve your goals.

Daily Devotional

Luke 1:40-41 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

Connecting to the right people is the key to success.  Too often we find ourselves in relationships that drain the very life out of us.  People are either “lifters” or “leaners”.  “Lifters” take you higher and build you up while “leaners” use you to lean on for help. It’s alright, and even charitable, to have a “leaner” or two in your life to whom you can serve as a “lifter”.  Don’t have too many however or they will drain you dry and suck the life right out of you.  On the other hand, you can’t have too many “lifters” in your life.  They bring you joy, purpose, encouragement and fulfillment because they not only help you to be better but they complete you with complimentary gifts and abilities.

Solomon wrote this wise observation:

“A man of too many friends comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”  (Proverbs 18:24 NASB)

Be intentional about how you develop friendships.  Keep in mind that you will most likely end up being like those you hang around.  It’s how the “birds of a feather” principle takes shape.  The “friend who sticks closer than a brother” is the kind of friend you want.  Don’t try to just collect large numbers of friends who are so “casual” that they have no commitment to your well-being and development.  A few good friends will see to it that you are living at your fullest potential and getting the best out of life.  Be sure to avoid the “wrong” people, be careful settling for just “any” people, and be intentional about connecting to the “right” people.  They will make all the difference in your life, as you will in theirs.

Don’t waste your time trying to validate your purpose or assignment to your critics, instead connect with your Elizabeth or dream supporters. When Mary visited the house of Elizabeth 3 things happened. First, Elizabeth’s baby leapt, evidencing that they were like minded. Connecting with like minded people will enable that which you are carrying to rise to another level. Second, Elizabeth saw that Mary was carrying something special; at no point did Mary tell Elizabeth what she was carrying. You want people around you who can see great purpose in you. Lastly, Elizabeth blessed and encouraged Mary. You will need dream supporters that will speak positively over you and support you in all your endeavours. It is critical that you connect with your Elizabeth.

Life Application:  Ask God to give you eyes to see your Elizabeths and immediately connect or increase your connection if they are already in your life.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to evaluate my circle and identify the Elizabeths you have placed in my life to take me to another level. Help me to be a “lifter” for those around me. I pray that you place the right people in my life. In Jesus name, amen.
