Genesis 20:1 And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.
In the game of American football, one of the player’s on the field is called a quarterback. And the main goal of the quarterback is to advance his team forward towards a touchdown by throwing the football to one of his teammates. In order for the team to advance forward both the quarterback has to throw the ball and one of his teammates has to catch it. So the quarterback doesn’t throw the football haphazardly, but he throws it to the teammate that is in position.
Likewise, if our quarterback was Jesus, the football was a blessing, and we were all wide receivers. If we indeed desire a blessing or a breakthrough, we have to ask ourselves if we have positioned ourselves to catch what we have been praying for.
And if you have watched any bit of football, you will recognize that it is rare that the quarterback will throw the ball to a wide receiver standing still. But anytime the quarterback throws the ball he/she is not throwing it to the place where his or her teammate currently is, but rather they are throwing it to the position their teammate will get to if they keep running. This is exactly what the Lord did with Abraham.
When the two Angels visited Abraham in Genesis 18, they told him that at the appointed time he would return and his wife Sarah shall bear a son. From that Sarah and Abraham understood that they were about to give birth to their promise and refused to take it lightly. As an indication of this their very next action was to leave Mamre, which represents the place of abundance to dwell in Gerar, which means the lodging place: It signifies the presence of God or secret place. The lesson to be learnt here is that you must be positioned for where God is taking you. Abraham and Sarah went and positioned themselves in God’s presence out of an understanding that the only place you are guaranteed of success is in His presence. To ensure your success, be careful to go position yourself in His presence.
Life Application: Live today and every other day in His presence.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to position myself where you want me to be. I pray against stagnancy and declare that I will move towards the place you want me to be in different areas of my life. In Jesus name, amen.
