Allow Yourself to Hear Only Wisdom

Daily Devotional

Proverbs 22:17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

When I took computer class in college, the first principle that I learnt was garbage in garbage out (GIGO). The idea that was being presented is that if you input garbage into the computer that is what you will see on the screen. It cannot be any different. Our mind is like a computer, and as it is for the computer, whatever you input in your mind, whether it be wisdom or folly, will be mirrored on the screen of your life.

Hearing is a choice; that means you control what you hear or give heed to. Since folly is an enemy of your success, allow yourself only to hear wisdom.  That is what is meant by Proverbs 22:17 – bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise. It is not everything that you should choose to hear. It is important to understand that what you hear is what defines your belief system and what you believe is what you do and what you do is what you become. If you get in the right input, it is only a matter of time that the right output or life outcome will manifest itself.

Life Application: Set aside 15 minutes to an hour daily listening to wisdom.

Prayer: Dear Lord, everyday I am bombarded with different voices as it relates to many things in my life and the society at large. Help me be deliberate about what I listen to and take instructions from. In Jesus name, amen.
