Stay in Place

Daily Devotional

Genesis 26: 2 And the Lord appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:

Your greatest success will be in the place you were called Genesis 26 tells us that there was a famine in the land of Canaan, the land that Abraham, being Isaac’s father was called to. In response Isaac went unto Gerar. It should be noted that Gerar was one town in the land of Canaan and the name means “lodging place”. In the midst of famine, we very often get very distracted and drift from the “lodging place”, signifying God’s presence, but Isaac did the opposite, he went and rested there. He may have felt like he needed to go down to Egypt, as that was how his father navigated the last famine. But right there in the “lodging place” God instructed him to stay where he was called to. He obeyed God’s instruction and right there sowed seed and reaped a hundredfold harvest, even though there was a famine. That is incredible, and gives testimony to the fact that your place of greatest success will be where you have been planted.

Life Application: Quickly identify the ministry, career, service that you were called to and make it your priority to live there.

Prayer: Dear Lord, there are many times I try to leave where you have placed me because it gets unbearable at times. But help me to remain where you have placed me because that’s where your blessings reside. Help me not to see things through the eyes of fear but faith in you. In Jesus name, amen.
