Exodus 23:28-30 And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee. I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee. By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land.

What is it that you want to achieve? It will not happen all at once: success comes in increments, little by little, step by step, one action at a time. It took Solomon 7 years to build the temple and 13 years to build the palace. After David was anointed to be King at the age of 17, his first success came when he killed Goliath. It was then he started to be perceived as a future King. His next major success did not come until several years after, at the age of 30, when he was made King over one tribe – Judah following the death of Saul. He had to wait another 7 years before he was made King over all Israel. Take note that his success came little by little.

God taught the Children of Israel this principle in Exodus 23:28-30, when He told them He would give them their Promised Land little by little and not all of it in one year. The reason given by God for this intended approach was that if He would drive out the inhabitants of the land all at once and it remained unoccupied then wild beasts, which are more difficult to dislodge, would come and possess it.   The point that God was making was that if you try to possess more than you are prepared for, you could find yourself in a worse state than at the beginning. Focus on being prepared for the success you want as success will only come in the measure to which you are prepared.

Life Application: Plan and prepare in advance for action steps that you will take each day and each week.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please prepare me for all you have in store for me. Allow me to possess all that you have in store for me in the requisite time. Often, I want everything immediately but through this lesson you have taught the Israelites, I realize the importance of waiting to possess what you have in store for me little by little. I commit everything to you right now in Jesus name, amen.
