Matthew 15:24 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
Nothing extraordinary is ever achieved by sticking to what is normal. If you do what is normal, the only outcome that you should expect is what is normal.
Even though Jesus instructed his disciples to preach the gospel to all the world, his ministry was limited to the house of Israel. He said as much to his disciples in St. Matthew 15:24, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. So when the Canaanite came to Jesus begging him to heal her daughter, she would have heard him say that he was sent to the house of Israel. That never stopped her plea for her daughter to be healed; she was determined to go against what was Jesus’ normal practice. Sticking with what was normal would have meant her daughter would not be healed, that was not an outcome she was willing to accept.
The bottom line of what Jesus was saying to the Canaanite woman was that she did not qualify for her daughter to be healed. That came against the background of the woman leaving her country to come to seek out Jesus for the healing of her daughter; that step alone was parting company with what was normal. Right there she did something that she had never done. She then took it a bit further as she was not willing to let societal norms or even the modus operandi of Jesus break her quest for her daughter to be healed. It is normalcy that had to break and it did. When Jesus saw her faith, He stepped outside of his normal practice and ministered healing to her daughter. A lesson we can learn from the woman is that if you persist by faith, normalcy will break. Bear in mind that it never broke immediately for the Canaanite woman, but she kept at it until it did. Do not let normalcy break you down, instead be the one to break it down.
Life Application: Think outside the box and explore solutions that you previously deemed impossible.
Prayer: Dear Lord, sometimes it is so easy to accept the norms and the modus operandi of society and things in my life. But, I do not want to settle,Lord. I don’t want to accept what is considered normal if what you have for me is supernatural. I therefore reject mediocrity and settling for less than you have for me. In Jesus name, amen.
