Let it Rain

Daily Devotional

Rain replenishes the earth; it provides good soil for growth. Rain washes, cleanses, renews, refreshes, and restores. The sound of rain should cause us to praise God. It symbolizes His care and His abundance.

1 Kings 18:41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

There are two factors that will determine whether or not it rains in your life; The first is whether or not you choose to honour God. The second factor is the current season that you are in.

In 1 Kings 17-18, the people of Israel chose to dishonour God by turning from his commandments and worshiping idols, and as a result it did not rain in Israel for 3 and a half years. Even though they needed rain and would have prayed for rain, rain only came when they turned back to God. They did that on Mount Carmel by bowing down to God and declaring with their mouth in 1 Kings 18:39; that “the Lord, he is God when they saw Elijah call fire down from heaven.  They also slew the prophets of Baal, upon the instruction of Elijah. The key point that you cannot afford to miss is that the Children of Israel, made a choice to dishonour God and it did not rain for 3 and a half years, but the very day that they decided to honour God, that day they saw an abundance of rain. Don’t stand in the way of it raining in your life, choose to honour God and let it rain.

Even though you may live a life honouring God, it is possible to go through a season of drought. That was the experience of Abraham (Genesis 12); Isaac (Genesis 26) and Jacob (Genesis 42). Three generations of godly men all had a season of drought and famine. Because they chose to honour God in spite of the famine, they all came out of their respective seasons of famine better off than they went in.  According to Genesis 13:2, Abraham came out of the famine rich in cattle and gold. Isaac had a 100 fold increase in the midst of the famine according to Genesis 26. Jacob too came out of the famine, being reunited with his son Joseph and seeing him in a position of rulership.

You cannot determine exactly when it will rain in your life, but you  can schedule rain by choosing to honour God regardless of the season.

Life Application: Make a conscious decision today to honour God by living by his every word.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to honour you in every aspect of my life. Lord, I walk in obedience to your word and will remain faithful in abundance and in drought. In Jesus’ name, amen.
