Luke 6:9-10 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
It is not every time that you pray you will get immediate answers; rather than get distracted, follow divine principles and persist in prayer until you do.
Cornelius was a righteous man and as Acts 10 noted, his prayers came up as a memorial before God. There are two implications of the scripture. The first is that Cornelius’ prayer pleased God. The fact that his prayer created a memory in the mind of God, had to be a prayer that pleased God. The second implication is that he must have prayed in line with Godly principles. For his prayer to have pleased God it must have met the standards set by divine principles.
The key principles that should guide your prayers were taught by Jesus when he taught the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6. Three of the principles that Jesus taught that are fundamental to getting answered prayers were: a) Start with thanksgiving and praise. Thanksgiving and praise helps to draw you closer to God. John 12:32 says and if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto me. b). Let the Holy Spirit direct your prayers. When the Holy Spirit directs your prayers, you pray His will and that is important to getting answered prayers. c) Continue in prayer until you find yourself in the secret place. True intercession does not stop until the answer is received from Heaven. Daniel set for us an example in Daniel 10, he continued in prayer and fasting for 21 days until he heard from God on the matter he was praying about.
Although it was not the same time that Cornelius prayed he got the answer he was looking for, the reality is that his prayer was answered. That happened because his prayer brought God pleasure as it met divine principles. God still speaks and He wants you to get answers to your prayers, start following the 3 principles highlighted above.
Life Application: Follow the principles laid out by Jesus and Intercede until you hear what God has to say about what you are bringing to His attention.
Prayer: Lord, with sincerity of heart I come to you right now. Guide me when I pray and allow me to follow the principles you have established in your word concerning prayer. In Jesus name, amen.
