Maintain a Continuous Expectation of Victory

Daily Devotional

1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Your attitude to challenges is completely different if you expect to overcome them. If you do, even while you are going through it, you will see yourself more as a victor than a victim

I John 5:4 said something very profound: everyone that is born of God overcomes the world. There are two implications of the scripture. The first implication is that it characterizes the “overcomer” as one that is born of God or having the Spirit of God living in them. The main thing that you need to overcome any challenge is strength and power. You cannot overcome anything that is stronger than you are: you are only ready to win when your strength is superior to it.  That strength will come from the Spirit of God that lives within you.

The latter part of the referenced scripture says “this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”. Yes, the Spirit of God will give you the superior strength you need to overcome, but it is by your faith in God and His words that the strength and power that you need is released to you. The implication is that you must expect to overcome and it cannot be a one day affair. You must have a continuous expectation of victory. Regardless of how bleak the affair looks, keep expecting to overcome whatever it is you are facing.

Life Application: Regardless of the current struggles, keep believing, you will overcome.

Prayer: Lord, I know I am victorious in you and I expect to win every time. I look to you the author and finisher of my faith for strength and endurance. I maintain a continuous expectation of victory through Jesus Christ. In Jesus name, amen.
