Build Your Strength

Daily Devotional

Deuteronomy 11:8 Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it;

The primary strength that you need to possess your promised land is divine strength and the only way to get it to make obedience a habit, rather than an option.

In Deuteronomy 11:8, prior to his death Moses instructed the Children of Israel to keep the commandments of the Lord so that they would obtain strength to possess their promised land. By his instruction, Moses was alerting the Children of Israel that the main thing that they needed to occupy their land of promise was divine strength, not their power or might. The first time that they tried possessing their promised land, their attempt was with their strength. And they failed. God departed from them after their rebellion against Him, but they decided nonetheless to go up against the inhabitants of the land and were met with defeat.

To ensure that the Children did not repeat the mistake of the past, Moses was resetting their mindset. For them to have possessed what God had promised required a mindset of obedience that would give way to divine strength; with that they could take on any foe and be certain of victory.

Obedience is not a choice, it is a requirement. Don’t make obedience an option and in the end lengthen your sojourn to your promised land as the Children of Israel did.

Life Application: Leave none of His principles undone: Go hard after total obedience

Prayer: Lord, help me to walk in obedience to your word and command. Help me to seek you in all things instead of relying on my understanding. I commit my thoughts and ways to you right now in the name of Jesus, amen.
