Psalms 62:5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
Faith is not the same as self-confidence. Faith is putting your confidence in God, Self-confidence on the other hand is believing in yourself. It is the former that brings real results.
Believing in yourself has its place, but it is not what will deliver the outcome that you want. When David had to face Goliath, note his language, he said “the LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” His utterances Revealed that his confidence was in God and not in his ability. Similarly, when Moses and the Children of Israel were at the Red Sea, Moses said, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. Moses’ expectation was that deliverance would come by the hand of God and not by his hands. The lesson to be learnt from David, Moses and the other heroes of the Bible is to let your confidence be in God that is how you create wins in life.
Psalms 62:5 says “my soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him”. The psalmist was speaking to himself, telling himself to look only to God for victory. That was a strong statement, the psalmist was convinced that looking to any other source for victory is like buying a lottery ticket, the odds are low. In the next phrase he gave the reason for that position: “for my expectation is from God” What the psalmist was saying was that God was the source of his expectation or confidence of victory was from God. Therefore, since his confidence is inGod he would look only to him for his victory. Wherever you place your confidence, is who or what you will look to for your breakthrough. If not God, who else can you look to and be 100% sure of victory? No one, not even you.
Self-confidence is good from the perspective that it helps to prevent procrastination and inaction. Where it gets dangerous is if self-confidence results in an overreliance on your ability. The true source of your victory will be God, so put your confidence in him.
Life Application: Show your confidence in God by being an avid doer of whatever His word says.
Prayer: Lord, I place my confidence in you and no one else. Let me see you as my source and rest confidently in you that all is well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
