1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, “Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
It does not matter how hard you work, if you get the fundamentals wrong, you will still fail. Michael Jordan put it this way “you can practice shooting eight hours a day, but if your technique is wrong, then all you become is very good at shooting the wrong way. Get the fundamentals down and the level of everything you do will rise.”
You can grow up in Church or be exposed to the word of God all your life but miss the fundamentals (wisdom) that is hidden in his words. If that is the case the end result will be bad decisions that create unwanted outcomes. Saul being an Isrealite would have had significant exposure to the word of God, but yet still he got the fundamentals wrong. He missed the principle of total obedience and it cost him his Kingdom in 1 Samuel 15.
One way of knowing if you have not gotten the fundamentals right is if your outcome is consistently not what should be expected, If that is the case then it is time to relook at your approach. Get the fundamentals right by getting back in the word.
Life Application: Diligently search out what it says about any area where there are unwanted outcomes and then do what the word says.
Prayer: Lord help me to get the fundamental things right. It is better to be obedient to your word than to offer a sacrifice. Direct my path in all my endeavors. In Jesus name, amen.
