Who Are You Choosing to Build With?

Daily Devotional

Psalms 127:1 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Your success is determined by who you build with. The difference between the Israelites who came through the Red Sea unharmed and the Egyptians who all perished therein was who they were building with.  Who are you choosing to build with?

In Psalms 127:1 the Psalmist drew the conclusion that “except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.” It is likely that he was speaking out of his personal experiences, having seen repeated bouts of failure due to him or others trying to build without getting God involved. Accordingly, he has painted a grim picture of that result of such actions, he said thy labour is in vain. Simply put, It will just not work out.  A vivid example of this is the tower of Babel that was attempted in Genesis 9:1-9. The people decided to build a tower whose top reaches up to the heavens. They had a lofty goal, but the mistake they were making was that they were doing it without involving God. What became of all this effort? Nothing, God confused their language and they were scattered all across the earth. The key takeaway from this is that you cannot succeed unless your success is permitted by God. Therefore, get Him involved in all your efforts.

The Psalmist also highlighted another error of thought. He said, except the Lord keeps the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. The point being made was that even with the highest fenced walls, best weapons, most skilled fighting men or Security Company, none of these things guarantee your safety. Jericho had thick walls and great fighting men, but without God’s involvement it meant nothing: the walls of the city came tumbling down and the great fighting men all fell. It was a case of the watchmen watched in vain.

Who are you choosing to build with? Build with God by following his principles and taking your directives from Him. The experience of others has shown that choosing to do otherwise is simply you wasting your time.

Life Application: Build your success around adherence to biblical principles and taking your directives from the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Lord help me to associate myself with the right people. Align me with those who will help to build and help me to progress. In Jesus name, amen.
