Act like Who You Really Are in God

Daily Devotional

1 Peter 2:9: But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

Why walk around operating contrary to who you are in God? Daily let your life express the nature of God who is in you.

1 Peter 2:9 highlights four aspects of our spiritual identity. It starts by stating that ye are a chosen generation, suggesting that if you are a part of his Kingdom you were chosen by God to do good works. That is important because the enemy would want you to feel that you are not wanted or not enough for God, but nothing could be further from the truth. The fact He chose you is evidence that there is greatness and beauty in you.

The second component of your identity is that you are a royal priesthood; that means you are king and priest consistent with Revelation 1:6 which said that he has made us kings and priests unto God. As king you have been given authority to rule over your circumstances and not them ruling over you.  The primary function of the Old Testament priests was to offer sacrificial worship. Today as priests of God, that is what is expected of you.

Third, you are a holy nation.  You could be at the place where you feel like it is not possible for you not to sin. If that was true the scripture would never have said that you are a holy nation. That assertion implies that you can live above sin. By believing in Christ, repenting and walking in water baptism, you were made no more slaves to sin but having the freedom to walk as a holy nation.

Finally, you are a peculiar people.  That signifies that you are set apart. It is ok if you do not feel like you fit in or you are not the same as everybody around you. You were called to be different; you cannot be different and at the same time be like everybody else.

The reason the scripture went at length to outline who you really are in God is for you to act like it. It would defeat the purpose if you are operating contrary to who you really are.

Life Application: Take a decision every day to show your difference by manifesting the greatness that God has placed in you to live above sin and your circumstances, while  portraying a lifestyle of sacrificial worship.

Prayer: Lord, I walk in the truth of who I am in and through you. I will not accept anything that is contrary to your word concerning me. In Jesus name, amen.
