Focus on What Will Get the Dream Done

Daily Devotional

Ecclesiastes 5:3 For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool’s voice is known by multitude of words.

It is not talk that will get the dream done, its action. Focus on what will get the dream done.

What will get the dream done may vary depending on the dream? Nevertheless, there are some fundamental principles that must be followed. Unless these are put into action, the dream will always be just a dream. Ecclesiastes 5:3 echoed the same sentiment. It says “for a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool’s voice is known by multitude of words.” The first thing it highlights is that the dream comes through a multitude of business or taking massive action. With that in mind it further suggests that it is folly to talk much about the dream and not translate that into action.

Hannah desired to have children, but unlike the other wife of her husband – Peninnah, she was barren. So year after year they went to Shiloh to celebrate the feasts,   Peninnah would taunt Hannah about her barrenness because it was well known that Hannah was preferred to her. What did Hannah do? The scripture said in 1 Samuel 1:7 that Hannah’s response year after year was that she wept and did not eat. While we can understand her emotional pain, the truth is that her weeping was not getting the job done. But she did anyway for several years. Until one year she changed her approach and decided to take the matter to the Lord in prayer. In the end she left the temple with a different disposition because she knew something had changed. It was not long thereafter that she conceived and brought forth a son. The lesson to be learnt from Hannah is that she never got to the dream until she changed her response. She decided to do the only thing that she could do and it was from that it all came together.

What action must you take to get your dream done? Talking, complaining, griping?  Even though your current situation may be emotionally difficult, it will not bring the result that you want. Identify what must be done and get it done.

Life Application: Make a list of everything that you must do to get the result you want and chip away at them every day until all is complete.

Prayer: Lord, help me to keep my focus on what needs to be done. I declare that my response to my dreams will be one that is built on faith and not emotions. In Jesus’ name, amen.
