John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Jesus would not have told His disciples to use the name of Jesus when they asked anything of the Father if it was not important. Never forget to use His name.
When Jesus’ work on earth was almost done he instructed his disciples about the correct protocol that they should take into prayer or in seeking God’s involvement in any matter. He said in John 14:13 whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do. The protocol that Jesus was establishing is that of using His name. It is consistent with what He had said in John 14:6 that no man cometh to the Father but by me. If the right protocol is followed, Jesus made a promise that he would do what is asked. It is like going to the King of England and telling him that Prince Harry sent you: instantly, you would get his attention. Using the name of Jesus not only gets the attention of the Father, it brings honour to the Son and creates favour with the Father, which puts you in a better position for your prayers to be answered.
In Acts 3 when Peter healed the lame man, he used the name of Jesus to great effect. He said then in Acts 3:6 “in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk” and the lame man walked. The seven sons of Sceva tried casting out demons in the name of Jesus in Acts 19:14 but that attempt failed. What was the difference? The sons of Sceva did not have the authority to use the name. When Jesus gave the instruction to use His name, the instruction was given to His disciples: that is the first level of authority that is required. The second level of authority is that using the name of Jesus is most effective when you are operating in the power of the Spirit, which the sons of Sceva were not doing
As a disciple, the name of Jesus is one of the keys that you have being given to open the heavens, use it to good effect.
Life Application: Make it a habit to pray and speak to things in your environment in the name of Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the authority that you have given me through your son Jesus Christ. Thank you for the gift of sonship and the ability to work miracles through Jesus, amen.
