1 Corinthians 13:2-3 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Your motive for doing everything that you do should be love. The greatest of works done outside of a motive of love is meaningless.

It is not what you do that matters, it is your motive for doing it. You could be most talented in your field and have abilities beyond human comprehension, but without a heart of love it will soon come to naught. The truth in this statement was summarized in 1 Corinthians 13:2-3. It tells us that if we have the gift of prophecy, knowledgeable and possess great faith such that we can move mountains, all of that would be meaningless if we do these things outside of love. The problem with doing things outside of love is that you drive people away rather than bring them closer to you. That means that by operating without love if you are in business, soon you will not have any customers and If you are an employee, nobody will want to work with you.

The success of Jesus’ ministry was because he was motivated by love. Not only did He go to cross, but prior to performing some of his miraculous acts the scripture said he was moved by compassion indicating to us that they were done out of love. He set the example for us to understand that whatever we are doing it should likewise be motivated by love. Fostering that heart of love starts with learning to love God. It is why the first commandment instructs us to love God.  With that we are then enabled to fulfill the second commandment of loving our neighbor as ourselves.

Be motivated by love.  If what you are doing is not being done out of love, it will soon crumble

Life Application: Pay attention to your motives for doing what you do and make sure it is driven by love.

Prayer: Lord, let love be the motivation for all my actions and thoughts. Fill me with your agape love that will cause me to love without conditions and boundaries. In Jesus name, amen.

  1. Thank you, friend. The Bible reminds us, in Agape Love we live, and move, and have our being. I am grateful for friends like you, who provide Divinely inspired devotionals. I need this reminder, without love, nothing is moving, while in a stagnate of mortal thinking. Christ is the way to everlasting life. Ty 🙏🏾
