Stay Alert, it’s Your Reaping Season

Daily Devotional

Proverbs 10:5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

Don’t miss out on your harvest by falling asleep. The appropriate response is to be more vigilant than ever before.

We are in the Christmas season and for some people it is their reaping season. During this time it is commonplace for some persons to fall asleep spiritually: being enamored with the festive activities little time is found for prayer, worship and the study of the word. But you cannot afford for that to happen to you, because it is your reaping season.

It would be a tragedy to fall asleep during the time of your harvest. Proverbs 10:5 says He that gathereth in the summer is a wise son. What the scripture was communicating was that wisdom is being able to discern when it is time to reap and a wise son or daughter is able to determine that and act accordingly. To the contrary a foolish son or daughter sleeps out their harvest. Recognize the season that you are in because it would be tragic to do the hard work of preparing the soil and planting the seeds but when it comes to the time to reap, you miss your harvest. Let the wisdom of 1 Peter 5:8 take you through the Christmas season, it says “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.

Life Application: Rather than let down your guard, stay alert by increasing and intensifying your times of prayer, worship and the study of the word.

Prayer: Lord, help me to remain alert and steadfast as I await my harvest. In Jesus name, amen.
