10 Things That You Must Do Differently in 2022 – Part 1

Daily Devotional

The end of the year is typically a time to reflect on what you must change to realize what you want to see in the New Year. However, the only way to create lasting change is by forming new habits. Therefore, we have identified 10 things that you can do differently in 2022 to create the change you want to see.  These 10 things represent new habits that should be targeted if they are not already being done.

# 1: Do the Most Important Things First

Genesis 12:4 So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

What are the one (1) to five (5) things that you must do daily or weekly to accomplish your objective for 2022. These 1 to 5 things are action steps that if taken will push you closer to where you want to be.  The mistake we sometimes make is to leave important action steps for when it seems most convenient. If that is what you did in 2021, what you would observe is that your action would have been inconsistent. Inconsistency will not take you to where you want to go.  To be more effective in getting to where you want to go, the habit that you must form is to do the most important things first. Doing this every day will result in small wins daily that accumulate to big wins by the end of 2022.

Doing the most important things first is not a novel concept. It was a principle that Abraham consistently practiced throughout the scriptures.  When God told Abraham to leave Haran, the scripture said in Genesis 12:4 that “Abraham departed as the Lord spoke to him”. He did what God told him to do, which was his most important thing first or immediately. Again in Genesis 17, God told Abraham that he should circumcise all males living in his house, Genesis 17:26-27 said that on the self-same day he circumcised himself, his son and servants living in his house. This was another occasion where Abraham did his most important thing first. For Abraham, following the principles and laws of God was his most important thing as he had seen the significant blessings that flowed in his life after he obeyed the instruction of God to leave Haran, such that the scripture said in Genesis 13:2 that he was rich in cattle, in silver and in gold.

Doing the most important thing first is a sure way to make progress towards what you want to accomplish. Outside of the spiritual habits, if you are in business your most important thing will be marketing and networking. If you are an employee your most important thing is to complete assignments given by your boss quickly and with excellence.

Life Application: Identify 1 to 5 things that if you do them, they will take you closer to where you want to be. Once you identify them, do them first every day. This not only applies to your use of time, but also to the deployment of resources.

Prayer: Lord, help me to get my priorities straight and to the most important things first instead of procrastinating. In Jesus name, amen.
