Bringing excellence to your environment is the principle that was taught in Part 8. If that is done, it will position you for a promotion by allowing you to operate at a higher level than others in your field and leaving for you a lasting memory in the minds of those you serve..

# 9: Be Diligent in Planning Ahead

Genesis 41:34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.

How consistent were you in planning ahead for your days, weeks and months in 2021? If the answer to that is not very consistent, then that is absolutely something that you should give attention to changing in 2022.  It is said that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail and it is true.  Based on my own experience, the days that I did not plan for, I got little or nothing done. If most of your days are like that then the year will go by and very little gets done. It is very important therefore to plan ahead across all time frames to extract all that God has for you in that season. Planning ahead allows you to get more out of your days.

Look into the future and create the outcome that you desire; that is what planning ahead allows you to do. The best example of that in the scripture is the story of Joseph in Genesis 40. By interpreting Pharaoh’s dream he gained insight into what the future would look like. In his interpretation, he saw 7 years of abundance to be followed by 7 years of lack. In response, Joseph helped Pharaoh to plan ahead; the process involved 3 steps. The first was to establish the desired outcome. The objective was to prevent the people of Egypt and surrounding nations from dying of hunger during the lean years. That objective was then supported by a strategy – to put in storage 20% of what is produced in the bountiful years. The third element of the plan was the execution. Joseph was given the responsibility to execute the plan, because he was deemed to have the greatest wisdom.

Your success in 2022 will require you to plan ahead on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. In planning ahead, establish the dominant goal(s) for each period. Thereafter devise the right strategy to get you to the desired goal; it might help to seek wise counsel, where possible, as the success of any plan depends on the effectiveness of the strategy. Lastly, identify the responsible person, if not you, and ensure that you do what you said you would do.

Life Application: Plan ahead to get more done by establishing your goal; craft an effective strategy and execute as planned.

Prayer: Lord, you have shown in your word that it is important to make effective plans to get a desired outcome. Help me to plan daily, weekly and monthly for my desired goals and not rely on chance to achieve them. In Jesus name, amen.
