Psalms 124:2 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us: 3 Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:
What God did for you in your past situations should be a reminder that you need him today in your present circumstances. Keep reminding yourself of all that God has done.
The Psalmist expressed uncertainty of what life would have been without God in Psalms 124:2-3. It says, “If it had not been for the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us, then they would have had swallowed us up quick”. The sentiment being expressed by the Psalmist was that God had brought Israel (the people of God) through so much that without him they would have ceased to exist already. He not only delivered them from their enemies, but it was also he who brought them through their Red Sea situation that seemed impossible at the time. The reflection on what God had done in the past allowed the Psalmist to recognize that even as they could not have made it without God in the past, their present and future also needed God. Therefore, he concluded the Psalm by saying “our help is in the name of the Lord”; what he was saying was that without God we just cannot make it.
Like the Psalmist you too must recognize that you cannot make it without God. He would have brought you through too much. That acknowledgement should birth the consciousness that you need him every step of the way. Moses came to that realization and so he said to God in Exodus 33:15 “If you do not go with us then cause us not to leave this place”. His involvement is too important for you to take a step without Him.
Life Application: Keep reminding yourself of what God has done and let that propel you to cultivate a deep relationship with him where you do not take a step without him.
Prayer: Lord, I’m nothing without you. If it had not been for you on my side I would have gone crazy a long time ago. I would have died several times and I would be without peace. I thank you for your constant presence in my life. In Jesus name, amen.
