5 Truths that Will Change Your Life – Part 3

Daily Devotional

Recap: Truth #2

In Part 2, the fundamental truth that you cannot operate beyond the level that you see yourself was revealed. It was made known that if you keep seeing yourself at your current level, you will remain stuck at your current level. The solution is to picture yourself at your next level and get there by forming habits that are commensurate to that level.

Truth #3: God Will Reward you With Good When You Make Good Happen for Someone Else

Scripture Verse

Ephesians 6:8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

The implication of Ephesians 6:8 is that if you do good to someone else God will make good happen for you. Get to where you want by helping others reach their destination. God will not leave a good deed unrewarded.

The Shunammite woman created change in her own life by making a meaningful difference in the life of someone else. According to 2 Kings 4, the relationship between Elisha and the Shunammite woman began with her deciding to feed him one day while he was passing by. It progressed to her feeding him every time he passed that way.  Recognizing that Elisha was a man of God, the woman convinced her husband that a room should be made for Elisha and in that room there should be a bed, a table, a stool and candlestick. When Elisha saw what the woman did for him, he asked his servant Gehazi to find out what good could be done for the Shunammite woman. In response Gehazi told Elisha that the woman is without child and her husband is old. Elisha called the woman and told her that within the next year, according to the season of life she would bear a son and it all happened as Elisha had said. Imagine that, what the Shunammite woman wanted for years, finally happened and it was all because she helped someone.  What she did was to sow good in the life of Elisha and God made the good she wanted happen for her.

Although best efforts are important, that alone may not give you the result that you want. The Shunammite woman was referred to in the scripture as “great” but that was not enough for her to produce a son. She made good happen for Elisha and God made it happen for her. Follow her example by seeing the needs of others as an opportunity to sow good into your environment and God will do for you what you cannot do for yourself.

Life Application:

Sow your time, money and people relationship into the life of someone else to help them to get to where they want.

Prayer:

Lord, it is so easy to get caught up with my circumstances and the challenges of life that I forget to extend help to others. Lord, help me to seize every opportunity to do good for others with a pure heart. In Jesus name, amen.
