Recap: Truth #3
In Part 3, we learnt that making good happen for someone else is an invitation for God to make good happen for you. It is an important principle as in some cases what you need may not come to you through your best efforts, it may require favour. Create favour with God and men by making good happen for others and God will make good happen for you.
Truth # 4: Staying in Proximity to Greatness Will Aid the Birthing of Greatness in You
Proverbs 13:20 Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.
Greatness is not something you were born with, otherwise we would all be born great: it is learnt and the fastest way to learn it is by association. Proverbs 13:20 points out that if you walk with the wise you too will become wise, the same is true for greatness since wisdom is the foundation on which greatness is built.
For some of the heroes of the Bible, the attainment of greatness was aided by their association with great men. Was it a complete coincidence in Genesis 39:20 that as it drew close to the time that Joseph was to rise to the position of governor of Egypt that the prison that he was placed in was where the king’s prisoners were bound? Or could it have been that God was strategically putting him in proximity to greatness so that he could become familiar with that territory? Consider also the life of Moses who rose to become the great spiritual leader of Israel. Was it a random event that for 40 years he had proximity to Pharaoh and the royal family and then for the next 40 years he served under his father-in-law Jethro, who was the priest of Midian? Certainly, these, and the numerous other examples, were not mere random events, but rather a recurring pattern that permeates the scriptures to teach us that associations aid the birthing of greatness. Joshua could be nothing less than a great leader after Moses died because he spent years associating and learning from the best.
In the same way that association with greatness aided the development of notable bible characters, It can do the same for you. Not only will it broaden the spectrum of your wisdom; it will also expand the sphere of your influence. Start today to make a significant leap in your journey to greatness by choosing great men to associate with.
Make a short-list of great men or women in your field that you want to learn from and as it is appropriate, reach out to them directly to ask questions while forging relationships. In some cases you might not be able to make contact directly, in that case connect with people close to them.
Lord, you are the great orchestrator and mastermind. Surround me with the right people and influence. And give me the humility to be teachable. In Jesus name, amen.
