3 Steps to Get the Result You Have Been Praying About

Daily Devotional

Bible Verse

Mathew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

It is not every time that you pray that you will see instant results, but Jesus has revealed the steps that you should take to get the breakthrough that you have been looking for.

First Step:

Mathew 7:7 reveals 3 steps to getting the results that you have been praying about. The first is to “ask and it shall be given you”. That means that you should establish a prayer goal and ask God to give it to you. He has sovereign authority so nothing can flow into your life unless he allows it. Asking God does not always mean that you will see it at the same time. If not and His answer is “yes”, “ask and it shall be given you” means that you have been given the authority to receive.

Second Step:

Having been given the authority to receive, the next step is to “seek, and ye shall find”. The approach to “seek, and ye shall find” is to seek after the person (presence) and principles of Jesus and out of that the solution for you to possess will be revealed to you through a word of wisdom or instruction from the Holy Spirit.

Third Step:

The third step to seeing the result that you have been praying for is to “knock and the door will be opened”. Knocking is acting upon the instruction that you have been given by faith and you will see the result that you prayed for. In some cases the instruction has to be applied repeatedly for the result to manifest. Naaman had to dip seven times in the Jordan before he was healed of his leprosy. The confidence you should have however, is that if you apply these 3 steps, you will see what you have prayed for assuming that you asked according to His will in step 1.

These three steps were exemplified by Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah in 2 Chronicles 20. Their prayer goal was deliverance from the three armies that were coming against them. They sought God through fasting and prayer for a whole day. In the midst of that time of seeking God, the word from the Lord was that they did not need to fight in the battle. As a result, no man took up arms, instead they decided to give God praise and worship and God eliminated their enemies.

The reason Matthew 7:7 repeatedly uses the word “shall” was to emphasize to you that if you do it how his word says his covenant promise to you is that you will see the results that his word promised.

Life Application:

The 3 steps to get results to your prayer are: set a prayer goal and ask God for it, then seek after him until you receive an instruction or word concerning that matter, then act out what the word says.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to follow your word instead of trying to do through my wisdom. I will ask, seek and knock until my prayers are answered. In Jesus name, amen.
