Daily Devotional

We typically highlight heroes of the bible, but in this short series we would like to highlight four (4) great men and women of our times who have employed biblical principles to impact their generation. By sharing their stories it is hoped that it will be a source of inspiration to help create radical change in your life in the same way that they stepped out to change theirs and their environment.

Follow Your Passion – Joyce Myers

Bible Verse:

Acts 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he (Paul) is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

What God has called you to, he has given you the passion for. Moses’ decision to kill the Egyptian 40 years earlier was because he had a passion for the deliverance of the Israelites. It was not coincidental therefore that he was called to deliver the Children of Israel out of Egypt. David had a passion to be a shepherd; he was anointed to be King (shepherd) over Israel. Although misplaced, Saul who was converted to Paul had a passion for the laws and principles of God and so according to Acts 9:15 he was called to preach to the Gentiles, Kings and the Children of Israel.

Joyce Myers recovered from being raped and molested by her father to today having a ministry that reaches more than 4.5 billion across the world. Her life took a dramatic turn in 1976 when while driving to work she received a call from God. She obeyed the call and joined a local church. In addition, she also developed an incredible love for the word of God, from there she followed her passion and started to teach the word of God. With growing interest and popularity surrounding the teaching of the word of God, she took the bold step of commencing a daily 15-minute radio broadcast on St. Louis radio station. In 1985, she resigned as associate pastor of her local church and founded her own church with radio programs on six stations. After being persuaded by her husband to expand to television in 1993, she started a television ministry under the name “Enjoying Everyday Life”; the television ministry has grown significantly to be aired in 40 languages across 900 TV Stations.

Joyce Myers never had a pristine past being sexually abused and having a history stealing from one of her employers. Nevertheless, she overcame all of that to now have a global ministry that reaches over 4 billion people. It is the result of obedience to the call of God and following her passion. Modeling what she did can allow you to create a similar impact.

Life Application:

Be obedient to God’s every instruction while vigorously pursuing your passion.

Lord, help me to understand my purpose and to live a life that honors you. In Jesus name, amen.
