7 Ways to Attract Favour In Your Life

Daily Devotional

Recap: #7 Ask For Favour

As we discussed last time, asking for favour is one way to attract favour into your life: Ruth asked favour of Boaz and received the same. While it is possible to receive favour whether or not you maintain a good relationship with God or man, you are better positioned to receive when the relationship is strong.

# 6: Build and Protect Your Good Name

Bible Verse:

Proverbs 22:1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

A good name or the lack thereof will be an important determinant of the flow of favour into your life. Possibly it was the most significant driver of the favour that flowed from Boaz towards Ruth. When Boaz came to his field and saw Ruth working there, he asked his servants to tell him about her. They told him that Ruth was the Moabite woman who came back with Naomi, his relative, out of the country of Moab. The decision by Ruth to leave her people and go with Naomi back to Israel was admirable given that Naomi did not have anything to offer her.

That single act would have given her a good name in Israel and unlocked the flow of favour towards her. Similarly, Joseph’s good name in Egypt after he became governor, preceded him and because of that he asked Pharaoh for seventy of his family members to live in Goshen in Egypt and the request was granted although it was during a time of great famine upon the land. Do all that is in your power to build and protect your good name.

The mindset that is needed to build and protect a good name was stated in Proverbs 22:1. It says a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. What the scripture was establishing was that a good name should be given greater importance than even great riches. Without a good name you lose access to opportunities that you would have otherwise had and it becomes 10 times harder to get to where you want. Potiphar’s wife falsely tarnished Joseph’s reputation and he not only lost his position as overseer of Potiphar’s house, but was also placed in prison.

The flow of favour in your life will depend on whether you have established and maintained a good name. To ascertain if this is true ,you need to look only as far as the large companies that are operating in your environment. They are as large as they are because they have established and protected their good name. The same is required of you.

Life Application

Make building and maintaining a good name a priority of yours in any environment that you operate in.

Lord, I see the importance of maintaining my good name at all times. I thank you for your favour that you have bestowed upon me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
