Recap: #4Practice True Servant-Hood
We learnt the last time that the display of excellence can be used to restore lost favour into our lives. That was observed from the life of Joseph, whose display of excellence was so significant that Pharaoh gave no consideration to the fact that he was a slave, prisoner and not a native of Egypt when giving him the position of Governor of Egypt.
# 3: Give Attention to Honoring the Kings in Your Environment
Bible Verse
Esther 2:15 Now when the turn of Esther… was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai, the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.
Esther became queen of the Province of Shushan because she gave attention to honoring the Kings in her environment. Esther 2:9-10 tells us that when Esther offered herself to be queen she immediately pleased Hegai, the king’s chamberlain, who was set over all the women. Esther pleased Hegai because she was keen to follow the instructions given to her by him. Consequently, she was favoured by Hegai over the other women and as such was given the best place to stay among the women. That attitude of honoring the immediate authority in her environment ultimately propelled her to be chosen by king Ahasuerus to be his wife. Esther 2:15 reveals that when it was time for Esther to go in unto the King, she only brought with her what Hegai had appointed. She chose to honor the instruction given to her by the King’s Chamberlain even though she had the option to take with her anything that she deemed fit. As a result of her decision to operate in this way, the scripture said that “Esther obtained favour in the sight of ALL that looked upon her”. Honoring the immediate authority within your environment will release favour. Accordingly, practice showing honor to all levels of authority; Hegai was not the King, but was set over the women and so was worthy of honour.
When all the Jews in the Province of Shushan faced annihilation, Esther sowed seeds of honor to turn the situation around. The approach that Esther and the Jews took was to start first with Honoring God with 3 days of fasting and prayer. When you start first by attracting the favor of God you are better positioned to draw favor of men from those places where it is needed. Esther followed up her action of honoring God with ascribing double honor to King Asherus by staging two banquets in his honor before asking for the unfavorable decree to be overturned. At the point when she actually spoke to the King on the matter, she had already built so much favor the King quickly acted on the behalf of the Jews and sanctioned the destruction of their enemies.
Make it a point of duty to honor the Kings in your environment including the immediate authority that is set over you. Doing so will attract not only the favor of men but also the favor of God.
Life Application
Honor all authority in your environment including your Pastor, ministry leaders and boss by following their instructions and using your skills to solve problems that they may have. Additionally, freely give to them and plan activities and events in their honor.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for highlighting through your word the importance of honoring those who have been set over me. Give me true humility to honor and serve them as you see fit. In Jesus name, amen.
