Disobedience Comes With A Price

Daily Devotional

Bible Verse:

Joshua 6:18 And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

The blessings of the Lord is what you need to create the success that you want, but if you are not careful, instead of attracting blessings you could draw curses to yourself. Stay blessed by practicing total obedience.

Prior to shouting so that the walls of Jericho would come tumbling down, Joshua instructed those present that Jericho was accursed: the implication of that was that everything in the city except Rahab and her family should be destroyed. The only other exceptions were the gold, silver and brass which should be taken into the treasury of the Lord. To that end those present were vehemently warmed to not take to themselves the accursed things because choosing to do so would bring curses upon their lives. However, the allure of the Babylonian garment, gold and silver was too great for Achan and as a result he took them for himself and in the process disobeyed the word of the Lord resulting in him,his sons, his daughters and all his possessions being destroyed. That is what happens when you put things over the word of God.

The primary takeaway from the story of Achan is to do whatever it takes to stay blessed as the price of disobedience is far too great. The disobedience of Achan resulted in curses that fell not only on him and his possessions but also on his children as well. Consider also that the nation of Israel was also affected by the disobedience of this one man, consequently they lost the battle with Ai. Although obedience comes at a price, from the aforementioned it should be clear that the price of disobedience is far greater. Not only do you suffer losses, you miss out on the rewards that come with being blessed.

Staying blessed is a choice; make that your choice regardless of what it may take.

Life Application:

Every time that you choose to be obedient you have made a decision to be blessed. Live in complete obedience to the laws and principles of God.

Prayer:

Lord, you have stated that obedience is better than sacrifice. I choose to obey your words instead of going against what you have commanded. I submit completely to your will. In Jesus name, amen.
