Bible Verse:

Joshua 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

According to 1 John 5:14 if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: Therefore, like Joshua, whenever we command things that are going against God’s purpose for our life, he will make it happen.

Joshua refused to allow nature to prevent him from completing a divine assignment. Because Gibeon had signed a peace treaty with the Children of Israel, they had become detestable to five (5) Kings of the Amorites and as a result they decided to wage war against them. In response Gibeon sent a message to Joshua and the Israelites asking them to come and help them. God gave them clearance to go and so they joined the battle. While the battle was in motion, the Israelites made great strides in subduing the enemy.

However, one day would not be enough to complete what they had started. The sun was ready to go down and there was still a lot of work to be done before they conquered the enemy. Rather than accept a normal act of nature Joshua instead commanded the sun to stand still and God did as he said and the sun stood still for an entire day thereafter.

The plan and purpose of God for your life take precedence over anything else that life throws at you. Joshua’s action came from an understanding that the destruction of the kings of the Amorites was in the will of God and because that was the case, everything must be subjected to what God was doing, even nature. Consequently, he used his faith to speak to the sun and it stood still. What that teaches us is that when things in your environment challenge your progress in the completion of God’s purpose for your life, you can use your faith to command these things to come into alignment and it will be done. It was by doing so that Joshua and the Israelites were able to finish what they had started.

Life Application:

Use your mouth to help shape your future by commanding unwanted circumstances to vacate your existence and follow that up with action.

Lord, you have given me the power to speak those things that be not as though they were. I command everything that is not in alignment with your will and purpose for my life to be removed. I declare peace, joy, wealth and health over my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
