Bible Verse:
Matthew 6:22 The light of the body is the eye. If therefore thine eye is single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Most of us find ourselves being inconsistent in our relationship with God. What contributes to this? And how can it be avoided? Jesus obviously expected that this would be a challenge. As a result he taught us the secret behind maintaining consistency in our relationship with God in Matthew 6:22. The scripture starts with Jesus saying the light of the body is the eye. There are two implications of the statement: the first is that whatsoever you choose to focus on is what will flow in your life. If you choose to focus on light, light will flow. The second point is that it is your eye so you determine what you choose to focus on. Jesus was highlighting the importance of focus because inconsistency in focus is what causes inconsistency in our walk with God. But since you have the power to choose what you focus on, you can achieve greater consistency in your relationship with God by choosing to be more consistent with your focus.
Choosing to be more consistent in your focus on God is the secret to greater consistency in your walk with God. Jesus highlighted this truth when he said if thy eye be single, then the whole body shall be full of light. The “eye being single” is referring to consistent focus. So that section of the verse was saying, if you keep your focus fixed on God, the result will be that every area of your life will be filled with the light of Jesus. The manifestation of that will be consistency in living His presence, purpose and principles. The result will be a life victory. Achieve greater focus in your relationship with God by first rekindling your passion for God and making him your top priority. What is most important to you is typically what you will give your attention to.
Life Application:
Be more consistent in your relationship with God by establishing intimacy with Him. Make him your top priority every day and throughout the day. That should be accompanied by strategies to make it a reality. It may not all come together immediately, but keep at it.
Prayer:
Lord, there are so many competing things in this world that seek to divide our attention. But, I pray that my eyes will remain on you and you will remain my priority all day, every day. In Jesus name, amen.
