Bible Verse:
Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
There are two categories of people based on Matthew 7:24-27: those who build on the rock and those who build on the sand. Which one are you? Those of us who build on the sand are those who hear the word of God and do them not. The life outcome of this category of people is that the house, or whatever we build, falls apart once it has to contend with harsh conditions such as the wind and the rain. The implication of this is that if we are one of those who build on the sand, then our successes will be temporary at best. Nobody wants that for themselves, so even when it may seem expedient to operate in this way, this approach should be avoided.
The second category of people are those who build on the rock. The rock represents the laws and principles of God. The scripture describes those who build on the rock as those who hear the word of God and consistently do them. Although they too faced harsh conditions, the outcome for those who build on the rock is different. The house or whatever they build is able to prevail against difficult conditions. From observation, most of us as Christians build some areas of our lives on the rock, and others on the sand. One reason for this is inadequate knowledge and understanding of the word of God. It is not possible to build on the rock, if you do not know what the word of God says. Another reason for us not building on the rock, is not understanding the importance of doing what the word of God says. That also results in us doing it our way only to see our efforts go up in smoke down the road.
Building our lives on the rock is the category of people you want to be. The mindset that we must possess to do it this way is that of God’s way or no other way. Admittedly, it will not be easy, but it is the only real option that we have. Build your life on the word of God.
Life Application:
Be one of those people who build on the rock by increasing your knowledge of the word of God and developing the discipline to consistently do what the word of God says.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for your words and guidelines to live by. Help me to live by them, thus building my house on the rock and not on the sand. In Jesus name,amen.
