Mathew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
We have been talking about getting to where God wants us to be without stating where that is. Matthew 5:6 gives insight into this: God wants us to be at the place where we are continuously filled with His Spirit to ensure that we are fully equipped to fulfill His purpose. Living there requires passion. And, to possess that passion we must be hungry and thirsty for righteousness as indicated by Matthew 5:6. Whatever we are hungry or thirsty for is what we will find ourselves pursuing. If we are hungry for God, we will fervently seek after Him and find ourselves being filled with more of him.
We often look on in admiration at the early church, not recognizing that the major difference between the church today and the early church is a difference in the level of passion. It is the same Holy Spirit that the early church had. Additionally, the word of God has not changed. What then is the difference? The answer is passion. It is possible for us to operate at the same level that the early church did, but for that to happen we must get hungry and thirsty for God again. It was that hunger and thirst for God that propelled the disciples to leave the comfort of their homes and put aside their personal interest to seek after the Holy Spirit for 10 days.
God wants us to be filled with his spirit. It is a blessing that accompanies the fourth beatitude: that of being hungry and thirsty for righteousness. To get to where God wants us to be, do whatever it takes to get hungry and thirsty for God again.
Life Application: Refuel your passion for God by turning away from whatever has stolen your passion and do the things you used to do when you were really passionate for God.
Prayer: Lord, rekindle my passion for you. May the fire on my altar never burn out. Let me place you at the highest place at all times. In Jesus name, amen.
