Matthew 9:21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.
Pursue wholeness, not just a quick fix. Oftentimes we walk around looking for a fix for our immediate circumstances. While nothing is wrong with that, the problem is that after we have had our fix, the same or similar issue tends to arise later and we end up needing another fix. The result is that we go from situation to situation always seeking a fix. The Children of Israel lived like that after the death of Joshua. Because of their disobedience they were frequently afflicted and oppressed by other nations and after a while they would cry to God and repent only for God to deliver to see them finding themselves back in the same situation some years later. The mistake the Israelites were making was that they kept looking for a fix rather than to be made whole.
God does not want us to just have a fix; He wants us to be made whole. The woman with the issue of blood made the mistake of looking for a fix for 12 years. It resulted in her spending all that she had with physicians even as her condition remained the same. A fix is like a Band-Aid approach; at best it provides a temporary relief, even though the underlying conditions have not changed. When the woman with the issue of blood heard about Jesus, she decided that she would abandon her Band-Aid approach. In so doing, she said in Matthew 9:21 “If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole”. The Israelites were instructed by God to put blue ribbons, which represent the word of God on the hem of their garments (Numbers 15:38-41). So by purposing to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment she was agreeing to do all that the word of God says with the understanding that when she does that, she would not only be healed, but also be made whole by removing disorder from all other areas of her life.
The quick fix approach is one of the problems with the world that we live in. Turn away from that approach and ask God to forgive you for the times in the past when you have taken this approach.
Life Application: Abandon the quick fix approach by choosing to apply the word of God to all areas of your life.
Prayer: Lord, I admit that there are many times when I focused solely on the quickest method to solve an issue. That has resulted in me making mistakes and wasting time in the process. May I rely on you and follow your word for direction. In Jesus name, amen.
