The second of seven (7) things Jesus accomplished on Calvary’s cross
Matthew 27:50-51 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
According to Matthew 27:51 when Jesus gave up the ghost the veil of the temple was torn in two; this was not mere symbolism, it signified that we now have unlimited access to His presence under the new covenant that Jesus instituted on the cross. Under the old covenant, there was limited access to His presence. One evidence of that was the fact that the high priest was only allowed to go into the Most Holy Place (where the presence of God was housed) only once per year. The High Priest was fortunate to have access once per year, the vast majority of the people never had any access. Imagine living like that every day, how horrible that must have felt because wherever the presence of God is absent, you feel dry, empty and unfulfilled. No one wants to feel that way. Thank God that Jesus went to the cross and changed all that. Now regardless of who we are, we have free access to His presence and can go there 365 days of the year at any time of any day.
The reason the Lord gave us unlimited access to His presence is so that we can live every day in His presence. One benefit of living every day in his presence is that we are empowered to live every day in victory. The Children of Israel brought the Ark of the Covenant with them to every battle because they were aware that once God is with them they could not lose. Living every day in His presence is synonymous with taking the God who has never lost a battle with you into every battle. In that case there can only be one outcome. When the Prodigal son made the mistake of living outside the presence of the father, it all went downhill from there. Choose to live in God’s presence and enjoy a life of victory.
Life Application: Make the best of the unlimited access to God’s presence that you now have by abiding in Him as John 15:5 instructs. Do so by scheduling quality time daily to spend in prayer and worship in addition to filling your environment with sounds of worship.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for dying on the cross and for access to the father. May I never take your presence for granted, but to live everyday entertaining and basking in your presence. In Jesus name, amen.
