Luke 18:28-30 Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake, 30 Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
You may feel at times that the sacrifices and effort you have made to build the kingdom of God has gone unnoticed and unrecognized. Please understand that even though men may have minimized your efforts, God keeps a good record and nothing that you have done for Him will go unrewarded. He gave that assurance in Romans 2:6 where it says He will render to every man according to his deeds. God has seen your good work and will not fail to reward you.
He is not only faithful to provide and deliver, He is also faithful to reward. He declared to Abraham in Genesis 15:1, that “I am thy exceeding great reward”. Peter was uncertain as to how he and the other disciples would be rewarded for the sacrifices they made by leaving all to follow Jesus, and so he reminded Jesus that they had left all to follow Him. In response, Jesus promised two types of blessing to whoever gives up material possessions and relationships for the sake of His kingdom.
The first type of reward that He promised was earthly blessings that are many times more than what was sacrificed. Abraham was willing to give up His only son and God made His seed as numerous as the sand on the seashore. He is only one example of those who received manifold blessings on earth.
The second type of blessing promised is that of everlasting life in the world to come. John got a picture of the world to come when he saw in revelation 20:12 the dead small and great standing before the throne. Eternal life belongs to all those who make Him their God.
Not because the earthly reward has not come within the timeframe you have set means it is not coming. Remember God is faithful.
Life Application: While you continue to give your best to the work of the Lord, expect God to reward you with earthly blessings but also eternal life.
Prayer: Lord, I thank you for being a rewarder and a promise keeper. Thank you for noticing my sacrifices and for blessing me in return. In Jesus’ name, amen.
