Place Great Value on the Word of God

Daily Devotional

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Sometimes we make the mistake of giving scant regard to the word of God. Some of the disciples of Jesus did that at one point. They found it hard to accept the words of Jesus concerning Him being the bread of life, so he sought to help them understand the efficacy of His words. It is within that context that he said to them in John 6:63 that, “The words I speak unto you are spirit and life”. Note the use of the word “are”; even today the word of God is still spirit and life. By referring to the word of God as “spirit”, Jesus was making it known that the word of God has great power. It is why He started by bringing to their attention that “it is the spirit that quickeneth”.The word of God comes with power. Hebrews 4:12 says “the word of God is quick, and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword”. Never lose sight of the truth that the word of God is powerful. It has been proven to be so, as there are multiple accounts throughout scriptures where the word of God has healed, delivered and nullified the attacks of the enemy.

The second characteristic of the word of God that was stated was that the word of God is “life”. That is true in more than one ways. Believing on the word of God brings everlasting life. However, that is not where it stops. When the word of God is spoken over and applied to any dead situations, it brings forth life. When the word of God was spoken at the tomb of Lazarus, He instantly responded to the words “Lazarus come forth”

We have at our disposal a most potent commodity in the word of God: something that brings power and life. It should never be belittled, disregarded or doubted.

Life Application: Place great value on the word of God by letting the word of God dwell in you richly.

Prayer: Forgive us Lord for not valuing the word of God the way that we should. Help us to make it our priority for your word to dwell in us richly. In Jesus name, amen.
