Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts:
Make the most of the opportunity you now have to see Jesus by seeking God now more than ever. That was the message of Isaiah in Isaiah 55:6 when he said “seek the Lord while He may be found”. The context within which this was said was that he foresaw that the days would come when everyone, regardless of their ethnicity or social background, would have easy access to the Father. Now that we are in that time, some may treat it lightly, so we are implored to use it as a platform from which we seek God like never before.
There are two ways that Isaiah put forward that we can use to seek God like never before. The first way to get close to God is to pray. It is what the scripture calls praying in the Spirit. In instructing us to do this Isaiah said “call upon Him while he is near”. Not much is accomplished when we are distant from God and try to seek Him through prayer. In the Old Testament getting close to God was practiced by going to the temple to pray, because that is where the presence of God was housed. Today, we can access the presence of God wherever we are. Therefore, the principle can be practiced by getting into his presence to pray. One way of doing this is to begin your time of prayer with thanksgiving and praise and continue in the same vein until you are positioned in God’s presence.
The second way to seek God like never before is to forsake your ways for God’s ways. It is not possible to seek God and keep doing things your way. The scripture says “let the wicked forsake their ways”. That means turning away from your ways and embracing God’s ways. King Jehoahaz did this in 2 Kings 13:4. After doing evil in the sight of the Lord and seeing him and the people of Israel being oppressed by the King Syria for a period, he besought the Lord by turning to God’s ways. In seeking God like never before you too must leave your ways behind in favour of God’s ways.
Life Application: Make seeking God like never before a daily affair by scheduling time to pray in God’s presence and doing everything that you do His way.
Prayer: Lord, May I never take your grace and mercy for granted. I will seek you while you may be found and get closer to you through prayer and forsaking my ways for yours. In Jesus’ name, amen.
