2 Kings 3:16-17 And he said, Thus saith the Lord, Make this valley full of ditches. 17 For thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.
We cannot get to where we want to be if we allow ourselves to be paralyzed by fear. Respond to your fears by digging ditches. Digging ditches is synonymous with taking action to create the outcome that you want to see despite how impossible the circumstance may look. That was what Moses and the Israelites did at the Red Sea.
The people of Israel, Judah and Edom also triumphed over their circumstances by digging ditches. The Kings of Israel, Judah and Edom had formed an alliance to fight against the King of Moab because they had decided not to pay anymore tribute to the Israelites after the death of King Ahab. On their way to fight against the Moabites the compass showed them that there was no water in sight for the next seven (7) days. That was a highly fearful situation for them, hence the King of Israel spoke his fear in concluding that the Lord had brought them together to give them into the hands of the Moabites. In response, Jehoshaphat, the King of Judah suggested that they hear what God had to say about the matter through the prophet Elisha. The word of the Lord to them was “make this valley full of ditches” and even without rain or wind he would fill it with water. The essence of the instruction that was given by God was that even though there was no water in sight, they should take the initiative and start creating the outcome that they want to see by digging ditches and He would do the rest. When you dig ditches, although nature (the wind and the rain) is not operating in your favor, that will not stop God from doing it for you.
God did it for the people by filling the ditches with water, without rain, and giving the Moabites into their hand. Great things will happen when we step outside of our fears and dig ditches.
Life Application: Dig Ditches by responding to your difficult circumstances by taking God directed action towards what you want to see manifest in your life.
Prayer: Lord, I will not sink in fear when difficulties arise. Help me to face each challenge with your word and faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.
