God’s Ways Are Better

Daily Devotional

Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

What is the benefit of holding on to one thing even though you have another that is superior? It is like choosing to travel 200 miles in a cart drawn by a donkey when you have at your disposal a car that would take you there much faster. The speed differential between both are eons apart and is synonymous with choosing our ways over the ways of God.

Isaiah 55:8-11 provides two reasons why the way of God must be chosen over our ways. The first reason is that God’s way is better.  That point was elucidated  when the scripture says “for as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts”. According to Britannica, the closest star to the earth is Proxima Centauri and it is 5.88 trillion miles away. Using that as a proxy for the extent to which God’s ways are higher, we must conclude that God’s ways are far better.

The second reason why it is necessary not to trust our ways over God’s ways is that God’s ways always produce results. The scripture says that his word shall not return to him void. What the scripture was saying was that when you go with God’s ways you are bound to see the right result. To illustrate the point, the analogy of the ram was used; in the same way that a few showers of rain spread out over a couple days will cause new growth to spring up out of a seemingly barren land, even so will God’s ways accomplish in your life.

Life Application: God’s word is his way, choose God’s word over what you feel like doing.

Prayer: Lord, I endeavor to choose your ways over mine at all times because your ways are always best. In Jesus name, amen.
