Expect to Rebound from Your Difficult Season

Daily Devotional

Joel 2:25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.

When you make Jehovah your God, you can expect to rebound from your difficult seasons. As was prophesied in Joel chapter 1 and 2, the people of Judah went through a season of darkness. It involved successive years of harvests being destroyed by palmerworm, locusts, cankerworm and caterpillar. Imagine going years without seeing any harvest, it must have been extremely difficult for them.  Even before the calamity hit, God had assured them that He would restore the years that the locust had stolen. They knew how the matter would end before it even began. What God promised to do for them and will in like manner do for you is to give back to you every harvest that you have lost out on in the past. Whatever you should have received over the 5, 10 or 15 year period that has escaped your grasp, God will bring back into your existence.

As a child of God, God’s promise of restoration is yours but it comes with a condition. The condition was stated in Joel 2:12 where God said “turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning”. Turning to the Lord with all our heart is to live completely by his laws and principles. That will not come without a change of thinking. Job is a good example. He rebounded from his difficult season in receiving twice what he had before the calamity fell upon him. Before he saw his restoration however, he had to eliminate the faulty thinking that God confronted him about.  When he recognized the error of his ways he said in Job 42:6 “I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes”. Job’s willingness to turn to God brought him his restoration.

God is keeping count of your difficult seasons and will restore what you have lost out on, you only need to seek him with all your heart.

Life Application: Trigger your rebound from your difficult season by living completely by the word of God.

Prayer: Lord, I thank you in advance for restoring all that was stolen and more. May I rely completely on you and follow your word as I wait on you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
