I Will not Let Thee Go, Except Thou Bless Me

Daily Devotional

Genesis 32:26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

There is a desperate cry for more of God. Like Jacob there are some that are crying out “I will not let thee go until thou bless me”. When Jacob declared those famous words, it was not a financial blessing that he was seeking for; he was already rich with sheep and livestock.  What he needed was for his soul to be satisfied. There will come a time, if it has not already come, when the only thing that gives us any real satisfaction is God.  That was where Jacob was. Therefore, he held unto God and said “I will not let thee go until thou bless me.” When you are that desperate for God, you are not going to let go of him so easily. Jacob went all night holding unto God. He must have been tired and weary, but all that pales in comparison to his desire for God. In his struggle to hold on to God, his thigh was dislocated, but not even that was enough for him to let go. He kept holding on until he got what he needed.

Refuse to let go of God until you get to where you want to be in Him.  Jacob never let go and his name was changed from Jacob to Israel: he experienced a spiritual rebirth. Moses never stopped until he saw God’s glory in Exodus 34. Joshua never departed from the tabernacle, until he got to where he needed to be in Exodus 33. All these men had one thing in common; they stuck with their pursuit of God until they got to where they needed to be.  Bear in mind that it was not the same time that they started to seek God that they got to that place. It took Jacob all night, but he never let go. Because he was desperate for God, letting go was never an option he was willing to entertain. Let your desperation for God propel you to do the same. Make a commitment to not let go of God until your relationship with him goes to a new level.

Life Application:  Let your desire for God propel you to stop at nothing until you get to where you want to be in God.

Prayer: Lord, I’m desperate for you. I will not let you go until you bless me. Draw me close to you Lord and never let me go. In Jesus’ name, amen.
