Everything Belongs to God

Daily Devotional

Job 41:11 Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

The prevailing culture may make us believe that it is okay to do or say whatever we deem fit, but let us never forget that everything under the heavens belongs to God. With that knowledge and understanding we should possess a different perspective on life.

There are three (3) ways in which our thinking should change when we understand that all things belong to God. The first is that we are not our own, we belong to God. Because that is the case, we cannot just do whatever we feel like doing or saying: we have a responsibility to fulfill the will and purpose of the master. Ecclesiastes 12:13 tells us that the whole duty of man is to fear God, and keep his commandments.

The second way in which our thinking must change is that we do not own the things in this life that we claim ownership of; they too belong to God. We are only stewards. As stewards we are required to manage the resources that God has given unto us in a way that brings Him honour. 2 Corinthians 4:2 states that it is required in stewards to be found faithful.

The final way in which our thinking must change is to recognize that because all things belong to God He has sovereign rule and authority; the implication of which is that he has the final say. Any attempts therefore to go contrary to his will and purpose will fail. Proverbs 19:21 says many are the devices of a man’s heart, but it is God’s purpose that prevails.

Life Application: Since everything belongs to God live your life everyday  being a faithful steward and focusing on fulfilling His will and purpose.

Prayer: The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. Lord, help me to honor you with my whole being and existence because I am yours and all I have belongs to you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
