Possess All That God Has Promised

Daily Devotional

Joshua 18:3 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the Lord God of your fathers hath given you?

Do not be satisfied until you possess all that God has promised. Under the leadership of Joshua, the Children of Israel had possessed a considerable portion of the land that God had promised. However, the job was not done, but they had become complacent. Joshua realized that they had become lackadaisical and said to them in Joshua 18:3: “how long will ye be slack to possess the land which the Lord had given to you”. For the Children of Israel, complacency was what hindered them from possessing all that God has promised. To put an end to their laid-back approach, Joshua instructed them to start taking action again. They were required to select three (3) men from each tribe who would go and survey the rest of the land so that it could be determined how it would be divided.

The lesson to be learnt from this experience of the Children of Israel is that to possess all that God has promised we must consistently take steps towards what God has promised.  You can only possess what you pursue. It was for this reason God told Joshua in Joshua 1:3 “every place where on the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours”. What God was communicating to Joshua was that although he had given them the land they would possess only as far as they were willing to pursue. The Children of Israel up to that point had only possessed a portion of the land because that is as far as they had tread. Regardless of the progress that you have made, do not relent in pursuing what God has promised.

Life Application: Make it your goal to possess all that God has promised concerning your life and carry it out by consistently taking steps towards it.

Prayer: Lord, I position myself to possess all that you have in store for me. May I walk in your purpose and occupy all you have for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
