Deuteronomy 2:3 Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.

Since it is time for God’s will to be done, the appropriate response is to let go of anything that would prevent you from walking in His will. After the Israelites failed attempt to possess their promised land the first time, Deuteronomy 2 tells us that they spent many days at Mount Seir. Mount Seir was a mountain range that was situated in Edom, which was where Esau and his descendants lived. Esau was known for operating contrary to the word of God and the Children of Israel had situated themselves in that place for years. However, when it was God’s time for them to possess their promised land, he said to them was “ye have compassed this mountain long enough, turn you northward”. It was a call for them to leave behind those things that had held them back for years, so that they could reach the place where God had promised.

What is keeping you back from God’s will being done in your life?  To get to the place where God’s will is done, we must first eliminate whatever it is that is stopping us from getting there. Prior to God speaking to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 2, some of their practices were hindrances to them walking into God’s will. Heading that list was fear and doubt, but they struggled with other things as well such as ingratitude, idolatry and speaking against God and Moses.it is worth noting after they left Mount Seir enroute to possess their promised land at no point did they repeat any of the habits that had previously kept them from their promised land. They had left behind what had hindered them prior and had accomplished God’s will for their life.

The instruction God gave them was to turn northward. Getting God’s will done will typically require you to operate at a higher level. Some of the things we may need to leave behind are fear, putting limits on ourselves, being distracted or lacking in discipline. Whatever it is for you, it is imperative that you leave it behind.

Life Application: Pray asking God to show you the things that are preventing you from walking in His will and quickly eliminate each one.

Prayer: Lord, there are things that I struggle with or cling to that are holding me back. I choose to leave behind all that is not of you and are holding me back spiritually and in other areas. In Jesus’ name, amen.
