The Blueprint to a Life of Obedience

Daily Devotional

Luke 4:1-2 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.

Would you not want to live a life without sin? It is possible because Jesus did it and it was not just because He is God. There were two principles that Jesus practiced that if we emulate, we too can live a life free of sin.

The first principle that Jesus displayed was that he had perfect knowledge of the word of God. He knew the scriptures from back to front and was able to make references to them when he ministered or engaged in conversations with others. As important as it is to have complete knowledge of the word, it is not sufficient to live a life free of sin because you can know the scriptures, but without a revelation from the Holy Spirit, you will not know how to apply it to your life. Furthermore, not every situation that we will face will have a reference in scripture, what do we do in such an instance?

The second principle practiced by Jesus that allowed him to live above sin was that he did everything that he did being led by the spirit.  Luke 4:1 tells us that it was because he was led by the spirit why he went into the wilderness to fast for 40 days; He never just did it of His own accord. It is an important principle to follow. One of the functions of the Holy Spirit is to lead us into all truth. The truth is the word of God. When there is no reference in scripture, we will not know what to do without being led by the spirit.

To live a life of obedience, deep knowledge of the word must be combined with a focus on being led by the spirit of God.

Life Application: Invest more time reading and understanding the scriptures and being led by the Spirit of God in all that you do. In order to be led by the Spirit of God you must first entertain His presence; both go hand in hand.

Prayer: Lord help me to walk in obedience as I commit to being led by your Spirit daily. In Jesus’ name, amen.
