Psalms 105:19 Until the time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him.

It is typical for us to get excited about what God has spoken and there is no reason why we should not be.However, expect the word of the Lord to try you. You are likely to face obstacles and difficulties that test your faith before what the Lord has spoken manifests.  Psalms 105:19, in referring to Joseph, said as much, the word of the Lord tried him before he became a ruler. He was placed in an impossible situation; firstly, being made a slave in a strange land and then if that was not bad enough, he was made a prisoner. How could anyone rise to become a ruler with such an awful resume? Part of the purpose of the word trying us is so that our faith will be in God and not in ourselves. There was no way that Joseph could take himself to the dream, he had to depend on God to do it.

The main takeaway from the foregoing is that there will be a season of being tried by word of God before it manifests. How does the word of God try us? The word of God will try us by testing our faith to see if we will still believe the word of God despite challenging circumstances. Maintaining faith despite difficulties qualify us to receive the promise. If when the word tries us, it finds unbelief and doubt, it does not just leave us, instead in that case the word works to prune away the doubt and unbelief, that was the experience of the Children of Israel. Their unbelief did not qualify them for the promised land the first time around, so the word continued to try them for another 38 years until the generation of unbelievers were removed.

Expect the word of God to try you and prepare your heart to receive, before the word manifests.

Life Application: With the understanding that you will be tried by the word, put your faith in the word of God even though everything may be going contrary to the word.

Prayer: Lord, help me to put my trust in you even when I’m going through the fire. In Jesus’ name, amen.
